What is Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion – A Wheelchair Challenge Demonstration
A demonstration of the Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion signature wheelchair challenge activity provides the opportunity for excellent visuals and exciting content. We can set up a challenge demonstration exactly as it will appear on Wheels In Motion event day, allowing for up to five teams to compete on air. The five legs of the wheelchair challenge demonstrate the different levels of spinal cord injury and also reflect areas that were identified as important by people with spinal cord injury, namely accessibility, recreation, employment, housing, and sport. We encourage local media personalities to take part in the demonstration.

Improving the Lives of People with Spinal Cord Injury
We can provide a recipient of a past recipient of Quality of Life grant to talk about the difference that Wheels In Motion has made in their lives. Since the inception of Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion in 2003, Canadians have raised $9.6 million. These funds have supported more than 800 quality of life projects in communities across Canada, such as:

  • Assisting Toronto Rehab in purchasing accessible computer systems for spinal cord rehab patients
  • Funding a therapeutic horseback riding program for people with spinal cord injury in Richmond, BC
  • Working with the Steadward Centre Trail Rider Excursion Program (TREP) in Edmonton to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to explore the outdoors
  • Helping purchase accessible vehicles for individuals with SCI in communities across the country, allowing them to live more independently

An interview a Rick Hansen Foundation Ambassador - an inspiring story of someone with a spinal cord injury who has overcome obstacles
Rick Hansen Foundation Ambassadors are people with spinal cord injury who volunteer in communities across Canada, sharing their stories of inspiration and courage in support of Wheels In Motion.

We have numerous Ambassadors in communities across Canada who are available for interviews. Our Ambassadors illustrate that it is possible to overcome major life challenges through hard work and passionate determination.
